Superflex takes on Brain Eater focuses on one of the social cognitive challenges we see most often in our students, distractibility, with strategies on how to stay on track with every day activities like getting ready for school and listening in class! The engaging comic book is the third in the Superflex series designed to help children learn more about their own social behavior and strategies to regulate it…

Superflex, our Social Thinking superhero, helps teach primary school students how they can use strategies to conquer their own brain. Through this humorous and delightful comic book, students are encouraged to think about thinking and what they can do to self-regulate some of their own wayward thoughts and behaviors.

Superflex, the comic books, are part of a series that begins with You Are a Social Detective, followed by  Superflex®: A Superhero Social Thinking Curriculum where teachers and parents are encouraged to set up their own Superflex Academy. By teaching students to explore the differences between Superflex and a motley crew of the Team of Unthinkables such as Rock Brain, Brain Eater, and Body Snatcher, they can better develop self-awareness and self-monitoring of their own behavior, eventually allowing them to participate in the Superflex Academy Graduation Party. Complete with charming illustrations, practical worksheets and many, many useful lessons, this curriculum is becoming an effective tool for working with our elementary school students with social learning challenges.

To be used effectively, parents and educators need to start at the beginning, introduce core concepts, and work through the Superflex curriculum before sharing this comic book (or others to follow) with children. Books should be introduced in this order:

1. You Are a Social Detective!
2. Superflex: A Superhero Social Thinking Curriculum
3. Superflex Takes on Rock Brain and the Team of Unthinkables (packaged with the Superflex Curriculum book)

Once these three books have been used with a child or class, you lay a solid ground work for students to understand the concepts associated with social thinking.  You can then move on to any of the individual “Unthinkables” books that have been produced to date, in any order that meets the child’s social thinking challenges or interests:

• Superflex Takes on Glassman and the Team of Unthinkables
• Superflex Takes on Brain Eater and the Team of Unthinkables

“At last, Superflex Academy is back in session as Superflex takes on Brain Eater! This teaching comic achieves the ‘unthinkable’ – a captivating story kids will love that is PACKED with practical strategies on how to deal with distraction.

A brilliant follow-up in the Superflex series!”

–Kari Palmer, MA, CCC-SLP

“From the Introduction forward, Brain Eater had me hooked. Although at first glance this book appears to be written for students, it is intentionally packed with strategies for teachers and parents to introduce and teach superflexible powers to all social thinkers in their lives. Social Town is safe for another day!”

–Gretchen Schmidt Mertes, M.Ed.

“I was thrilled to see Brain Eater arrive at my door. For so long I have struggled to help my clients find and use strategies to keep themselves focused and on track with chores and classroom tasks. Superflex to the rescue once again!”

“My middle school students were very excited with the Brain Eater addition to the Superflex comic books, and are anticipating which Unthinkable will appear next! I love the “top secret tip sheet to defeat the team of Unthinkables” included – what a fun and effective way to teach social strategies!”

-Cathy Decker, M.Ed, CCC-SLP

“The Superflex Academy has brought us an exciting new adventure in defeating the Unthinkables. In the best comic yet, Superflex takes on Brain Eater and focuses on one of the social cognitive challenges we see most often in our students – distractibility. Professionals and parents will love the practical information, the engaging examples, and the wealth of strategies that truly work. Students will love it because it is FUN to read! This is a therapy tool that will make a huge difference in the lives of my students. I can’t wait to see what happens next in Social Town… and neither can my students.”

-D. Renee Attaway, MS, CCC-SLP

“Once again, an amazing book written in kid-friendly language that will help kids understand their thinking. I love the distinction between Inside The Brain Distracters (ITBD) and Outside The Brain Distracters (OTBD)! An easy-to-read, easy-to-use practical strategy-based book that is also just so fun to read!”
